Joint service helps young ones settle in
HIGH school students and staff have been working hard to reassure younger children who will be joining the school in the new year.
Macclesfield Academy pupils joined year six children from Ash Grove Academy for a Christingle service at St George Street Baptist Church.
It’s part of an ongoing initiative to manage the transition of pupils between primary and secondary school, and came a day after staff and students from the academy took 80 year six pupils to an activity centre in Liverpool.
The transition activities are designed to help future Macclesfield Academy students manage the change from primary to secondary school as smoothly as possible, running activities which make the primary students feel more comfortable in their new surroundings.
Laura Halsall, acting head of school at Macclesfield Academy, said: “Arranging regular activities of both an academic and fun nature for our new intake – including our transition summer schools – enable our new students to become familiar with their peer group, teachers and surroundings prior to starting at our school.
“The transition from primary to secondary school can be daunting for some pupils and we have found that our varied programme of activities helps them to settle quickly and ‘hit the ground running’ when they join us in September.
“It has been a very popular addition to our transition programme”.
