Store celebrates revamp with generous donations
FOLLOWING an extensive makeover, the Tesco Metro in Macclesfield has relaunched with a day of customer celebrations and charity donations.
The new-look Tesco store on Exchange Street welcomed pupils from Ash Grove Academy and representatives from the East Cheshire Hospice to receive donations from the store.
Mr Hallam, who teaches class five at Ash Grove Academy, accepted a £500 donation after a pupil Rafferty Postlewhite won the store’s colouring competition.
The Tesco store had invited students from local schools in the immediate location to enter a poster design competition.
Rafferty, aged nine, won his school £500 and a £25 gift card for himself.
The colourful artwork by Rafferty now features on 4,000 hessian shopping bags for life available in store.
Heather Jackson, headteacher at Ash Grove Academy, said: “I am so excited for Rafferty and think that having his design printed on hessian bags for life is a fantastic way of displaying his work to the school and our local community.
“I’d like to thank Tesco for their generous donation.”
Leah Goodhind community fundraiser at the hospice, accepted a £1,000 donation.
She said: “We are delighted that East Cheshire Hospice has been chosen to receive the extremely kind donation from Tesco Metro Macclesfield and would like to thank them for their support. The money raised will go directly to providing patient care, whether that be an assessment by a specialist doctor, a home cooked meal or complementary therapy to ease symptoms.”
Store manager, Zak Lees said: “It’s really important to us as a store that we play an active and supporting role in our local community and we are pleased to be supporting East Cheshire Hospice and Ash Grove Academy as part of the celebrations.”
