Thumbs up for eco-friendly wedding venue

-

A WEDDING venue has made the shortlist for an eco award.

Heaton House Farm, based at Rushton Spencer made the shortlist at the prestigious Trinity Mirror Cheshire Business Awards.

Heaton House Events is a family business owned by Mick, Margaret and Sarah Heath, and has invested tens of thousands of pounds into ensuring their operations are even more environmentally friendly.

Sarah Heath, business development co-ordinator, said: “We have been striving to make Heaton House Farm as eco-friendly as possible, with 125 solar panels installed in December 2012, and another 125 solar thermal panels installed in October 2015.

“The newest addition, is our biomass burner.

“The firm’s green efforts have not been limited to powering the venue.

“Our team members have been improving the green credentials of all of our company operations through recycling.

“We now also recycle all of the waste left by the external companies that use our venue for their events.

“Eventually we would love to accomplish our dream of being carbon neutral.”

These projects and innovations are part of the reason why the company was nominated for its first eco award, the Green Business Award, which was sponsored by The Mersey Forest.

Although Heaton House did not win the award this year, the company plan to continue to invest in green technology which could potentially see them nominated again in 2016.

Among the green initiatives implemented by the company is the aim of reducing to almost zero the amount of waste sent to landfill.
