CHILDREN with special needs will have a safe and fun garden to play in thanks to a Lottery windfall.

Bollinbrook Pre-school has been given almost £10,000 from the Awards for All fund.

It has been used to build a ‘Sensation and Imagination Zone’ which includes new fencing and soft surfacing to the outdoor play space and new play equipment.

The aim of the project is to improve the outdoor play space and create a safer environment for children with more complex physical difficulties.

It is the final piece in the puzzle for the pre-school, which earlier this year opening a new building on its site on Abbey Road.

Caroline Bickerton, pre-school manager, said: “The garden is almost finished, we just need to put the ramp for disabled access.

“The children are going to love it. There is a soft floor to keep them safe and a mud kitchen, which allows them to enjoy getting messy with compost and spades.

“We have a lot of children with special needs, as well as two year olds, so this garden creates a safe space outdoors for them to play.

“It has been a great year for us with the opening of the new building in July, which has given us twice as much space as we previously had. With the new building and the garden, we hope to secure another outstanding Ofsted inspection.”

The garden will open in January.
