Name: Bev Needham from Bollington Brass Band.

Location: Bollington. What do you do?: I am chairman of Bollington Brass Band and cornet player in our B Band and ocasionall­y in the A. What do you enjoy the most about doing this?: Working with the lovely people in our band, and of course playing the music... also helping to keep this wonderful tradition of a local village brass band alive and thriving. What is the best thing about Macclesfie­ld?: Definitely the people. What is the worst thing about Macclesfie­ld?: Closed shops in the town centre. Where is your favourite place in Macclesfie­ld?: Plums kitchen, LOVELY food and great service. How long have you been a musician?: 38 years! Gosh that makes me feel old. I do have to say I started at a very young age.

Who are your main musical influences?: My main influence was the most fantastic brass musician Brian Taylor who died many years ago now; he taught me everything I know. What is your favourite piece of music to perform?: I love all types of music but my favourite is Rodrigo’s Concerto de Aranjuez. What’s the funniest or most memorable thing that’s happened while you’ve been playing – or what’s the most memorable you have done?: The most memorable was performing at the Royal Albert Hall in London. I have also made the theme tune for a television programme and toured Europe with Brass bands. If you could perform for anyone who would you perform for?: The Queen. around the Christmas tree. Where / when is it?: Bollington Town Hall Christmas tree. 6pm, Christmas Eve. What does it involve?: Christmas carols for everyone to enjoy and join in the singing. All the usual favourites including the Bollington Brass Band and mulled wine. The road outside the Town Hall will be closed as usual at 5.15pm and the singing starts at 6pm 6pm. The band will also be playing on Christmas Day at about noon at the top of White Nancy, Bollington’s most famous landmark. Bring your champagne and celebrate Christmas Day singing carols at the summit. Both events are hugely popular and enjoyed by many.
