Runners buy Trust’s new wheels
TENANTS at a charity are enjoying some new wheels after a donation of more than £3,000 from a race around the Langley countryside.
Representatives from Macclesfield Harriers running club have presented the Rossendale Trust with a cheque for £3,100 from the Langley 7 race event.
Nearly 300 runners took part in the run last month, which started off from Main Road in Langley.
The challenging seven-mile course had a fairly flat first mile, then two miles of steadily increasing climb to the top of Withenshaw Lane.
From there runners ran along the ridge for a mile followed by a long downhill section to the finish.
Runners passed the Rossendale Trust, on Hollin Lane, at about two miles into the course.
Rain fell on the day but organisers say it did nothing to dampen the spirits of the runners who turned out to make it such a huge success.
Julian Brown of Macclesfield Harriers organised the event and teams from all over the North West took part.
It was the final race of the year of the Cheshire Grand Prix series of events.
The money will help the charity – which is based in Sutton and supports people with learning and physical disabilities – to buy a new car for its tenants.
This will enable them to attend appointments, visit friends and take part in the wider community.
Steve Nichols, chief executive at the Trust said: “This is a fantastic achievement from the Harriers and has now helped us to purchase a new car for our tenants. We can’t thank them enough.”
