Double win for football girls
A PRIMARY school girls’ football team has scooped two trophies in just one week.
Two seven-a-side teams from Marlborough Primary School visited Tytherington High School for a competition against Tytherington Cluster Primary Schools, the A team winning four games and drawing one to win the league.
The team continued their winning streak two days later, beating Macclesfield and Wilmslow Primary Schools at Wilmslow High School and winning the trophy in a penalty shoot out.
School sports co-ordinator and PE subject leader David Hope said: “The A team won both competitions without conceding a goal. Goalkeeper Caitlin was the hero at Wilmslow, saving three penalties.
“The girls have been training at lunch every day for a month, rain or shine, in order to improve their football skills and become more competitive.
“No matter the weather, it was the girls who insisted we train every day. They were so excited about football and I was really impressed by their enthusiasm.”
Mr Hope thanked parents who washed the girls’ PE kit every day.
He added: “I’m really proud of the whole squad – they were all so determined to improve and this trophy is not just for the team who won on the pitch but for all the girls’ football squad who push each other to be the best they can be every day.”
