Remy’s a Euro star at Open
KING’S School young golfer Remy Miller finished a superb sixth in the The Champions Week finals of the Daily Express Junior European Open to emulate some of the European tour greats.
Following in the footsteps of the players such as Justin Rose and Luke Donald, the Tytherington 13-year-old golfer (pictured below) completed four rounds of scratch golf at the Alcaidesa Links Resort, with its stunning views across the Mediterranean to the jurassic rock of Gibraltar.
102 boys from across Europe competed, playing two rounds on each of the Alcaidesa Links and Alcaidesa Heathland courses.
The competition was fierce, with several of the boys already representing their country at U18 national level. However, this did not phase Remy and he quickly altered his game to get used to the rapid greens. His two qualifying rounds, with scores of 73 at the Heathland, one over gross, including five birdies, and 75 at the Links, three over gross, ensured his place on finals day at Finca Cortesin.
Not only did Remy make the Top 30 cut, he went into finals day tied in 7th place, just six shots behind the leader.
After posting a final round of 76, place in the clubhouse, but once the leading groups came home, his final placing of sixth was confirmed.
Remy said: “It was a privilege to play these world class courses and Finca provided a serious test of my long and short game. I have made some great friends this week and I have memories that will stay with me forever.”
