Free football for servicemen and women
FOOTBALLERS are calling on the support of the armed forces in their next game.
Servicemen and women are invited to attend Macclesfield Town Football Club’s game against Aldershot for free as a thank you for the hard work they do.
The decision was made to issue free tickets for the game due to Aldershot’s connection with the military - the town originated as a Military camp and is home to the headquarters of the Army’s Support Command.
James Beckett, media manager at the football club, said: “Obviously there is a large connection with Aldershot and the armed forces and we were keen to recognise this so we decided to label our game ‘Armed Forces Day’.
“Hopefully this will see a good reaction from the people of Macclesfield and the surrounding areas, and I’m sure on the day the regular supporters at the Moss Rose will be keen to show their gratitude for those in the forces.”
He added: “The support definitely makes a difference and we would greatly appreciate fans getting down to the Moss Rose to get behind the Silkmen during the fight for a place in the Football League.
