I RE­CEIVED an email this week from Don Gio­vanni’s restau­rant, one of Manch­ester’s long­est stand­ing Ital­ian eater­ies.

Along with its re­cent re­fur­bish­ment, the own­ers have in­vested a cou­ple of hun­dred quid on a ‘wine ac­cess’ Coravin de­vice.

It’s de­scribed as a ‘coup’ for the restau­rant, but in truth there are other es­tab­lish­ments in Manch­ester that have beaten Don Gio­vanni’s to it.

And I sus­pect that many oth­ers will also be get­ting on­board in the fu­ture.

The Coravin is a hand-held de­vice in­vented by Amer­i­can wine-lover Greg Lam­brecht who thought of the idea when his wife be­came preg­nant and was un­able to help him fin­ish
