Man attacked ex at their home
AMAN has been sentenced for assaulting his estranged girlfriend after accusing her of having an affair.
Ian Simpson, 36, pushed the woman and ‘cuffed’ her in the face during a heated row, the court heard.
The argument was triggered after Simpson accused his ex-partner of having an affair, prosecutors said.
After the assault Simpson, a manager at a transport logistics firm, dam- aged the victim’s front door while throwing her belongings from the house, the court heard.
The incident took place while their three-year-old son was in bed at the house in Macclesfield, magistrates were told.
Simpson, formerly of Macclesfield, now of Sheaf Field Walk, Manchester, admitted assault by beating at Macclesfield magistrates’ court.
He has been ordered to complete 80 hours unpaid work as punishment.
At a previous hearing Debbie Byrne, prosecuting, said: “The defendant and complainant had been in a five-year relationship and have a threeyear-old boy.
“At the time of the incident, on December 4, they had been separated for three weeks, but were still living together in Macclesfield.
“At 11.30pm the victim was in bed and her son was also sleep when the defendant returned home.
“She received a text message and the two began arguing. He was accusing her of having an affair.
“The argument became heated and they ended up on the landing of the stairs.
“He pushed her more than once and he lashed out and ‘cuffed’ her in the face.
“She then put some belongings into a plastic bag and tried to leave.
“He pushed her back into the property and threw the items in the bags all over the driveway and front garden.
“While he was throwing the items out of the house he caused damage to the front door.
“He was arrested and told officers he suspected her of having an affair and this made him angry.”
The court also heard that the victim had been left ‘shaken’ after seeing ‘the violent side of her ex’.
Jenny Fields, defending Simpson, told the same hearing: “He lost his temper.
“He was upset at his belief she was having an affair.”
