To Macc’s bid

-

2-0 in the FA Trophy. Goals from Danny Whitaker and Kristian Dennis helped the Silkmen progress to the last 16 of the competition.

Whitaker opened the scoring on 20 minutes when his long-range effort flew into the top corner to put his team in front.

They carried that lead into the second half, and were given a golden chance to double the score when Danny Whitehead was fouled in the penalty area.

That allowed Dennis to step up and smash the spot-kick into the back of the net to make it 2-0 to the hosts.

That’s how the match finished, with Maccles- field running out comfortable winners and setting up a trip to Torquay United.

The game with Torquay takes place on Saturday 6 Feb, with a place in the quarter-finals up for grabs.

Torquay have already beaten Macc once this season, and first team coach Byron Jenkins is hoping for revenge on this occasion.

“We have got Torquay next and we will see what we can do there, we shouldn’t be fearful of them, it is a game that we can win,” he said.

“I thought we were unlucky the last time we played them and we will be looking to get our own back.

“We were really pleased with the performance against Truro, they were up for it and they were a tough opposition and anything can happen in the cup.

“We did what we had to do and got the result and now we are through to the next round, so it’s job done from our point of view.”
