Askey calls for Fortress Moss Rose

- SHELDAN KEAY

MACC boss John Askey has urged his side to make the Moss Rose a fortress again after a poor run of form at home.

The Silkmen have now lost their last four home games in the National League, including a 2-0 defeat to Aldershot Town on Saturday.

It has left the Macc boss furious, and he knows that his players need to start bucking their ideas up in front of their own supporters.

“These performances seem to be happening at home so that’s the most disappointing thing,” he said.

“Teams come here and know the way we set up. They allow us to have the ball in our half and then as soon as we get into their half we’re closed down.

“It means we’ve not got the space to play in so we need to get the ball forward quicker and look as though we want to play.

“We need to roll our sleeves up and starting working hard. It’s easy when you’re winning, but when things are not going right then that’s where you see what you’re made of.”

Macclesfield don’t have a home match to worry about this weekend, with Askey’s side travelling to The New Lawn to take on second-placed Forest Green Rovers.

Forest Green have been one of the most dominant teams in the National League this season, but Askey still remains confident despite his team’s recent woes.

“We’re one of those teams where it doesn’t matter who we play. We can go to Forest Green and beat them as on our day we can beat anybody,” he said.

“You can’t weigh us up at times so all we can do is think about winning the next game as it is pointless looking ahead to the play-offs or anything like that yet.”
