Businesses are wanted to make starting line-up for big 10k race

-

BUSINESSES in east Cheshire are being offered a chance to be part of one of Manchester’s most eminent and high-profile sporting events.

The Great Manchester Run in May, which is broadcast live on the BBC, has been described as Europe’s top 10k running event and East Cheshire Hospice is hoping to attract a top business sponsor for this year’s race.

“It’s a fabulous event with an incredible atmosphere,” said event manager Jessica Ruth.

“And it’s a great opportunity for a business to put itself in the spotlight in front of a huge street and TV audience.”

Among the 40,000 expected runners, the hospice fundraising team has set a goal of attracting its largest team to date with around 200 runners taking part in Team ECH, each runner pledging to raise a minimum of £150 for the hospice.

The event has raised almost £200,000 for the hospice in the last five years and is well supported by both individual runners and corporate teams every year.

Any businesses interested in supporting the event can contact Jessica or any member of the fundraising team on 01625 433477.

For those wishing to pound the streets, a limited number of Team ECH runner places are now available for a £30 entry fee – cheaper than the normal entry fee.

That fee will be refunded if runners raise £250 or more.

And those already with their own place can still join the hospice team by registering on the hospice website now: www.eastcheshire hospice.org.uk/gmr.

For anyone looking for inspiration in moving from the couch to 10k over the next few weeks, the Great Manchester Run organisers have some useful training plans for all abilities: www. greatrun.org/greatmanchesterrun#downloads.
