Sam to tackle 230-mile ride
A TEENAGER from Prestbury will tackle a mammoth 230-mile bike for charity.
In June Sam ThorntonWest, 14, will cycle from London to his school, Beech Hall in Tytherington, beginning from Beech Hall’s sister school, Riverston.
Sam and five other Beech Hall students – Harry Lyons, Otis Palmes, Brad Monroe, Louis Brocklehurst and Ewan Jones – aim to raise £10,000 for Friends of Park Lane Special School, attended by Otis’ brother, to help renovate the school’s hydrotherapy pool. The pool is essential for physiotherapy.
The team, named 90490 after the school’s pledge to complete 90 events to mark its 90th birthday, aim to complete up to 50 miles a day for six days, taking canal towpath routes where possible.
Sam said: “Friends of Park Lane Special School is a great charity and we’re more than happy to take on this challenge. “We thought outside the box for the ride, which is part of our summer activity week.”
The boys need kit, sponsorship and training for their journey and will bag pack in supermarkets to raise money for accommodation en route.
Beech Hall headteacher James Allen said: “Sam is a passionate young man who is very successful in his endeavours. He will encourage his team to fundraise and cycle hard.”
