What does it in­volve?: Mozart’s true char­ac­ter is per­haps re­vealed in his flam­boy­ant, melod­i­cally witty pi­ano con­certo, per­formed by Martin James Bartlett, win­ner – BBC Young Mu­si­cian of 2014. In con­trast, Tchaikovsky of­fers up a wist­ful, rav­ish­ingly poignant piece. To close, the NCO per­forms a hardly known sym­phony by Haydn – full of in­ven­tion, sur­prises and de­lights.
