Man, 29, killed after drinking and taking drugs

- STUART GREER

ADRIVER who had taken a cocktail of drink and drugs was begged not to get behind the wheel before he died in a tragic road smash.

Sean Gilbert, 29, suffered fatal head injuries when his Ford Fiesta crashed into woodland on Priory Lane in Macclesfield.

An inquest heard that Mr Gilbert, of Parkgate Road, spent the hours before the crash drinking and taking drugs.

The hearing was told that prior to the smash he reversed his car into a wall and a friend had demanded he hand over the vehicle’s keys.

When he refused, neighbours urged Mr Gilbert not to get back in the car – but he drove off at speed.

The hearing was told he hit the kerb and ‘glanced’ another car before crash- ing into woodland.

Blood tests revealed Mr Gilbert was three times the drink drive limit at the time of the accident.

Diazepam, cocaine, cannabis and amphetamine in his system would have ‘impaired’ his ability to drive, the inquest heard. Another driver said Mr Gilbert’s speed was ‘very high’ while his passenger described the Fiesta as being ‘out of control’.
