Cash boost for pop­u­lar dis­abled sport char­ity

A WHEEL­CHAIR sports char­ity has won £1,000 from a com­mu­nity fund to help its ac­tiv­i­ties.

The Wheel­ies Sport and Ac­tiv­ity Club won the do­na­tion from es­tate agent Gas­coigne Hal­man’s £25,000 Com­mu­nity Chal­lenge fund.

The char­ity is us­ing the money to pay for hir­ing Tyther­ing­ton High School Sports Hall for the next year.

The char­ity which was founded in 2001 aims to pro­mote healthy recre­ation for peo­ple with dis­abil­i­ties, run­ning pro­grammes to de­velop phys­i­cal, ed­u­ca­tional and so­cial skills.

The group wel­comes in­di­vid­u­als of all ages and abil­i­ties and cov­ers ac­tiv­i­ties in­clud­ing, bas­ket­ball, foot­ball, sail­ing, swim­ming and cy­cling.

Mar­garet Mered­ith, a trustee of the char­ity, said: “We are de­lighted to re­ceive this gen­er­ous do­na­tion from Gas­coigne Hal­man. With this fund­ing we will be able to con­tinue sup­port­ing our mem­bers so they can live in­de­pen­dently in the lo­cal com­mu­nity.”

Gas­coigne Hal­man cel­e­brated its 25th an­niver­sary by set­ting up a £25,000 fund to sup­port lo­cal causes. The aim was to se­lect char­i­ties and com­mu­nity groups that cre­ate a pos­i­tive im­pact on the com­mu­nity.
