ATHUG beat up his ex-girlfriend twice in two days. Jake Cotterill, 25, punched and kicked the mother of his four-yearold son during two separate attacks last December, a court heard.

In the throws of one of the assaults he threatened to kill her, magistrates were told.

At Macclesfield magistrates’ court on Tuesday, March 15, Cotterill, of Mayfield Close, Macclesfield, admitted two charges of assault by be beating.

Debbie Byrne, prosecuting, said the incidents happened on December 6 and 7, 2015, four weeks after the couple had ended their four-year relationship.

She said: “On December 6 the victim was in a car on a public car park outside some flats on Bollinbrook Road. She was there to drop of some work clothes at the defendant’s brother’s flat.

“When she pulled up, the defendant appeared from nowhere and jumped into the passenger seat of the car. He was ranting, shouting ‘are you having an affair?’

“He then grabbed her by her ponytail and pulled it back hard. He punched her in the head, connecting with her ear.

“The defendant then got out of the car and threw a bag of food at her, some of it connected. He then spat at her.

“The victim tried to leave, but he jumped on the bonnet of her car. She managed to break hard and shook him off and she got away.”

Mrs Byrne said that on December 7 the victim was asleep on the sofa at her house when she woke to find Cotterill standing in front of her.

Mrs Byrne said: “The defendant had a key to get into the property. The vic- tim shouted ‘get out of my house’. The defendant lunged at her.

“She managed to run out of the house to a neighbour, banging on the door to raise the alarm.

“He caught up with her and grabbed her head and banged it against the door.

“He then kicked her up the backside.

“The defendant then pinned her by the throat against the wall. He said ‘I am going to kill you’.

Cotterill, who was unrepresented by a solicitor in court, was bailed to attend the same court for sentencing pending a report from the probation service.
