Baker is crust above with five pie awards
ACHEF who earns his crust making delicious pies has cooked up FIVE prizes in a national pie competition.
Mark Wilkinson, who owns the Treacle Town Pie Company, based on Charlotte Street, Macclesfield, has scooped four silver awards and one bronze at the British Pie Awards in Melton Mowbray.
The 40-year-old got silver for his venison and red wine; steak, Guinness and Cheshire blue cheese; chicken, pancetta and lemon thyme; and minced beef and onion pies, as well as a bronze for his butternut squash and vegetable.
Mark who estimates he cooks between 800 and 1,000 pies each week on average, said: “To get one award is great, five is amazing and very rare.
“It’s like a Michelin star for pies. I am really chuffed.”
The latest awards add to the two bronze he got in last year’s competition and the gold award he won in 2014.
This year’s event, which is organised and hosted by the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association, featured more than 1,000 entries from bakers and butchers.
Mark set up his company in 2009 after years working as a chef in the hotel business.
