Fashion helps cause

A MACCLESFIELD fashion store has helped turn a black shopping day into a red letter day for East Cheshire Hospice.

Staff at Fat Face on Mill Street nominated the charity to benefit from their national Thanks For Giving campaign, which ran over the Black Friday weekend last November in all Fat Face stores.

Instead of offering customer discounts, the company opted to donate 10 per cent of all profits earned over that weekend to charities up and down the country and staff in the Macclesfield store chose the hospice as their nominated charity.

Store manager, Jennifer Lewis, said staff were keen to do something which would have a real and meaningful impact on their local community.

“Rather than the day only being about making extra money, we were inspired to give something back and as the work of the hospice touches so many lives we were delighted to support it,” said 33–year-old Jennifer.

The total amount raised for the Fat Face Foundation over the weekend was almost £200,000 – the single biggest donation in the history of the Foundation – and staff at the hospice were recently very pleased to pick up the cheque of almost £890 from their local store.

“As a local charity, we don’t often get support from large national companies and with a large percentage of our running costs having to be met by donations, this was a fantastic way for a big organisation to support our work,” said Roxana Pirlea, corporate and community relationship manager at the hospice.
