Lara lands top biathlon crown

FA L L I B RO O M E Academy’s run and swim star Lara Craw­ford has capped an amaz­ing win­ter sea­son of suc­cess by re­cently win­ning the Na­tional Schools’ Mod­ern Biathlon.

Craw­ford was com­pet­ing in in the un­der 13 girl’s cat­e­gory in Lon­don at the Crys­tal Palace Na­tional Sports Cen­tre, with over 100 girls all tak­ing part in the com­pe­ti­tion af­ter a num­ber of qual­i­fiers.

It com­pletes a se­ries of out­stand­ing per­for­mances from Craw­ford across a range of com­pe­ti­tions since Novem­ber, in­clud­ing win­ning the North West Schools Mod­ern Biathlon, win­ning the Cheshire County Cross Coun­try Cham­pi­onships and win­ning the Man- ch­ester Area Cross Coun­try League.

She also took a sil­ver medal at the Bri­tish Na­tional Biathlon in De­cem­ber and a bronze medal at the English Na­tional Cross Coun­try Cham­pi­onships last month.

Croft also trains and com­petes for the Mac­cles­field based Satel­lites Swim­ming Club, and she has been en­joy­ing her re­cent suc­cess.

“I love run­ning and swim­ming so any event that puts the two to­gether is go­ing to be bril­liant for me,” she said.

Her run­ning coach Richard Goddard con­tin­ues to be amazed at her achieve­ments and said: “She al­ways puts in 100 per cent ef­fort and it’s nice when all the hard work in train­ing pays off.”
