●● HISTORIC items from Macclesfield’s renowned Egyptian collection will no longer to be put on show because of failing conditions at West Park museum (website and Express, March 23) Dorothy Ward: This little museum is fantastic, the exhibits are wonderful. Well worth a visit and definitely hope it is given the repairs its in need of. Stephanie Nield: I’m a fan of this museum, more for the Tunicliffe items they have than the Egyptian collection or the building (as beautiful as it is). Opening hours are odd there and they have Tunicliffe paintings, artwork and archives which are not being lauded or invested in. Yes get the storage conditions right but also invest in what you already have. Macclesfield history is about so much more than the silk mill and Brocklehurst’s Egyptian purchases. Lesley Anne Baxendale: That’s true, but this particular museum was paid for by a Brocklehurst for the benefit of the town, so regardless of its collections, it’s very much linked to the silk industry in Macclesfield. Steve Cottriall: Oh no! My wife remembers visiting it in the early 1960s when she worked at the Infirmary and West Park. Is the bear still there? This museum is what got her so interested in Egyptology. Hope funding can be found. Lesley Anne Baxendale: This little museum has been overlooked and neglected for far too long. It forms an important part of the silk history of the town. It could be made into a real asset if the will was there in the council to do something about it. Maggie Edwards: Brilliant museum, taken many school children here over the years. The staff are fantastic and the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Dan Chaloner: I went in a few weeks ago and must say that the exhibits really need some tlc. The Tunnicliffe and other artworks are in a bad way. However they aren’t beyond saving. Instead of another Macclesfield Town Council white elephant, invest the money in the conservation of what we already have. Sharon Lyon: I grew up in Macclesfield and always visited the museum, please get things sorted and don’t let it get closed down, it’s a part of Macc. Alison Mellor: It’s a very special place. The good people of Macclesfield must look after this museum. Liz Cook: It’s a lovely museum and a beautiful building. Hope it gets sorted. Vince Wright: Children’s centres facing closure, halfway house being shut.. cuts cuts cuts.... The Tory way. Get MP David Rutley to comment. Georgina Moore: Hopefully the funding will be found. Too many of our heritage buildings have been lost over the years. Take my grandchildren there and they find it really interesting. Martin Smith: If there’s a damp problem why spend money paining the ironwork? Surely the priority should be the issue at hand. Pete Lake: It’s a beautiful building, hopefully it can all be sorted out. Leah Ward: My kids love it there when it’s open, strange opening times. Hope it gets the money it needs for renovations. Sharyn Wraight: My daughter loved it here, it would be a shame to see it go. ●● WE asked if life could be found in Macclesfield after a part of Mars was named after the town (website and Express, March 23)
Annette Deacon Jones Thain: I know there is life in Macclesfield Ha Ha. David Heathcote: No life, the lights are on but there’s nobody home Graham Galley: There’s plenty of pond life! Nigel Harper: According to taxonomy, they are kingdoms!? Jen Banks: Probably not intelligent life! ●● GRACE Stockdale, from Macclesfield, was invited to the cobbles to interview actor Liam Bairstow as part of Down’s Syndrome Awareness Week (website and Express, March 23) Barrie Richards: Well done Grace, I’m very proud of you and your achievements. Elaine Lesley: Well done Grace! Very fond memories of you at Junior Blues! X Katherine Mary: Go Grace! Fabulous to see you’re doing so well. Kx LeanneMarie Lake: Well done Grace xxx
