Big Top show was a great surprise

-

PRIMARY school pupils became circus stars for the day in a surprise end of term event.

Children at Gawsworth Primary School had no idea a circus was coming until a Big Top showed up on their school field.

The youngsters spun plates, juggled and tried their hand at stilt walking, hula hooping and acrobatics as part of a special end of term ‘treat’ day organised by the school’s Parent Teacher Association, Friends of Gawsworth.

Performers from Circus Sensible showed off their skills for the first half of the day. They then followed their performances with sessions teaching the children some of the skills they had seen.

Headteacher Pam Childs said: “The children had a marvellous time.

“They were thrilled as it is every child’s dream to take part in a circus.

“They have even been practising spinning plates at home – we haven’t had any complaints from parents yet!”

She added: “The day was all thanks to the Friends of Gawsworth Committee.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to them for putting it on for free.”
