Past Macc captains out in force at dinner

THE annual Past Captain’s Dinner at Macclesfie­ld Golf Club saw another full attendance of club dignitarie­s enjoy a great night of reminiscen­ces at their beloved club.

The evening was hosted by president Roy Flitt and the guest of honour was the captain Neil Jackson.

Also in attendance were club life members Angus Abraham, Peter Womby, Ron Blench and Bill Milligan who also enjoyed another memorable night at the club.

Macclesfie­ld Golf Club was back in great condition for a BB Stableford and Pete Williams and David Sellers were uncatchabl­e with a huge haul of 49 points.

Next in were Simon Paddock and Chris Bull who pipped the perpetuall­y unlucky Rod Price and Neil Mutter after a cpo on 44 points with Pete Holmes and Mark Brierley on 43 points.

The familiar name of Richard Burrow led in a Thursday Stableford at Shrigley Hall as he posted 40 points to finish three clear of Peter Trussell and Lynn Heathcote.

Medal action at Shrigley featured a remarkable nett 60 in Division One from Anthony Holt to leave him well clear of Peter Cartledge 65 and Daniel Henshaw 66.

Division two honours were taken by Jez Hancock with 69 from Roderick Scott 70 and Sunil Mehta and John Gaskell, both 66.

The 21st Seniors Winter League Stableford at Styal was won by David Hollick after a cpo on 41 points with John Folds, one more than Steve Weaver.

A Saturday Stableford at Styal saw Will Lucas top of division one with 40 points, two more than Harrison Peck and Dave Allison.

In division two it was much tighter with a cpo on 39 points being taken by Dennis Chester ahead of Eugene Brady, Steve Weaver and Kevin Bocquet.

Styal ladies latest Winter League was won by Claire Whitney with 31 points from Diana Prow 27 and Mel Hill 25.

Alderley Edge’s men had the President and Captain coming out in the early morning to support the ‘Opening Sides competitio­n and the Captai’s inspiratio­nal team talk inspired his team to an early 4-0 lead.

The afternoon session was started by 99-year-old Jack Unsworth and the Captain’s team kept up their momentum to win by 13-6 on a great day for the club.
