Case of ‘what if’ for Jalal
MACCLESFIELD goalkeeper Shwan Jalal believes the Silkmen’s wins over Gateshead and Grimsby show they could have made the play-offs with a fully fit squad.
Jalal produced a man-of-the-match performance against promotion chasing Grimsby on Monday as the Silkmen responded to Friday’s win at Gateshead with another victory.
The Iraqi stopper believes injuries prevented Macc producing similar performances in their nine games without a National League win prior to Friday’s three points.
“We’ve been waiting for it to click before the last two games,” he said after Monday’s game.
“We’ve been unlucky with a few results but I’m delighted for the boys because they’ve ran their socks off and worked so hard to get the two results.
“Obviously the play-offs are quite far away from us now but the lads are disappointed because we had some key injuries in January and February.
“It’s a case of ‘what if’?
“If those players who got injured would have stayed fit, we would have been there or thereabouts.
“We’ve got an unbelievable set of lads and the biggest thing is keeping them together so we can have a have a real go again next year.”
