Art goes on show as Fairtrade group celebrates tenth birthday
CHILDREN from 11 different primary schools across Macclesfield have had their creativity on show as the Grosvenor Shopping Centre welcomed Macclesfield Fairtrade Town Group to mark the end of ‘Fairtrade Fortnight’.
As part of the national campaign, children between the ages of four and 11 created a range of fantastic Fairtrade posters to help raise awareness of the issue.
They focussed particularly on the farmers and workers behind the supply of our food.
Originally on display at Macclesfield library, the artwork was then exhibited at the Grosvenor Centre for three weeks.
Ed Kennedy, centre manager, said: “Creating Fairtrade posters is something that primary school children across Macclesfield look forward to every year.
“We’ve been looking forward to displaying the posters in the centre that the children have worked so hard on, and to help Macclesfield Fairtrade Town Group celebrate their tenth birthday.
“We’re proud to be giving people of the town another chance to see these brilliant posters and it will be great to see the children and proud parents coming into the centre to view the work.”
Keith Taylor, of Macclesfield Fairtrade Town Group, said he was delighted that the posters would be on display at the Grosvenor Centre.
He said: “2016 is a landmark year for Fairtrade. The Fairtrade mark itself is celebrating 21 years and Macclesfield has been a Fairtrade town for the last 10 of those.
“I’m thrilled that the posters that the children worked so hard on will now be seen by even more people, and from all of us here at Macclesfield Fairtrade Town Group I want to say a big ‘thank you’ to everyone at the centre.”
