Quirky quintet are lined up for night of world music at centre
THE TEAM at Bollington Arts Centre are getting excited about an upcoming performance of global music by a group of talented musicians.
Project Jam Sandwich will be playing at Bollington Arts Centre later this month as part of the spring programme.
They are a quintet who promise to offer audiences a fresh take on music from around the world.
The group members, who met while studying at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, include BBC Young Musician of the Year category finalists and international concerto soloists.
Roland Edwards, from the arts centre, said: “We’re excited to have this group of very talented musicians coming to play at Bollington Arts Centre.
“Their explosive live performance ranges and captivating collection of influences have immediately situated Project Jam Sandwich as rising stars in their field.
“Ranging from the music of Cuba to Ireland to Kenya, they concoct their own charismatic arrangements with exhilarating improvisation, scorching rhythms and beautiful melody.”
Performance highlights for the band have included a BBC Radio 3 broadcast of their BBC Prom at the Royal Albert Hall, featuring in BBC Radio 3’s In Tune Programme, and a string of music festivals including Celtic Connections, Ulverston International Music Festival and Swaledale Festival.
They were also featured artists in the 2015 Royal Northern College of Music’s Day of Strings, Percussion and Chamber Music Festivals and have played their own Bridgewater Hall concert.
The band are keen supporters of developing young musicians.
Roland said: “Project Jam Sandwich champion outreach work.
“They are currently on Yehudi Menuhin’s ground-breaking Live Music Now scheme which aims to give a platform to emerging young musicians as well as bring live music of a high quality to those who would not usually have access to it, such as special needs schools, retirement and nursing homes, hospitals and prisons.
“The band will be supported by local band The Braconniers at the concert.
“The band only formed six months ago but they have quickly established themselves on the local music scene as a group of fine musicians who can play a variety of styles.”
The concert starts at 7.30pm on Friday, April 29.
Tickets cost £12 and £8 for concessions.
They are available on the door or from bollingtonartscentre.org. uk.
