BOSLEY Tug of War Club competed in the first leg of the Tug of War Association National League in Bedford as they continue their preparations for the 2016 Tug of War Association National Outdoor Tug of War Championships which are taking place at Macclesfield Rugby Club on Saturday 18 June.
The team competed in four weight classes on the day at 600kg, 640kg, 680kg and catchweight competitions and were looking to improve on the two finals the team reached at their own event which they hosted at Glebe Farm on earlier in the month.
Bosley again made two finals, first in the 600kg competition, where they progressed from their group to the final in first place ahead of Norton, Sandhurst, Two Dales, Lincoln and Holland.
In the final, Bosley met Oxney Vines Cross Tug of War Club from Sussex who won their group,, with Bosley overcoming their southern opponents by two ends to nil to win their first competition of the season.
Bosley also reached the final of the 640kg competition, progressing out of a group containing Lincoln, Widecombe, Two Dales and Sandhurst. Bosley progressed to the final where they met Norton from Staffordshire who won their group. In the final, Bosley did not quite have enough to defeat their opponents over the two ends, so had to settle for silver.
In the other weight classes, Bosley did not progress from the group stages to compete in any finals.
“We had a good day of competition, and it was an improved performance on the previous week,” commented Bosley puller Alan Knott.
“We still have a long way to go, but it is pleasing to make a good start to the season, and hopefully we can continue to progress and improve as the national championships taking place on 18 June get closer.
“We will be attending competitions almost every week now so hopefully we can stay ahead of our competitors.”
Bosley will be competing at the Tug of War Association National Outdoor Tug of War Championships on Saturday 18 June, which takes place locally at Macclesfield Rugby Club. Spectators will be welcome and encouraged to go along and support the teams that are taking part. For further information about the National Tug of War Championships, visit www.tugofwar. co.uk.
