Martin ends year wait for hole in one
A LOCAL golfer has hit the first hole in one in over a year at Mottram Hall Golf club, near Prestbury.
Martin Firth, 35, from Macclesfield, hit the hole in one while playing in a competition held at the Cheshire golf venue recently.
The shot was the first hole in one since 2014, on the demanding Championship par 72 Mottram Hall course, even after the course played host to a European Seniors Tour last year.
Martin who only joined the club in January, was understandably delighted with his achievement and stated, it is his greatest feat in golf to date:
“It’s my first ever hole in one in a competition, I’ve got one just on my own in practice before, but never like this.
“I did win a golfing holiday to Dubai a few years ago, but that was in doubles golf, this was in singles, so it’s definitely my best achievement in singles golf at least.”
Having being playing once a week during the winter season, Martin will now compete in two events per week, as the summer season commences.
“I only joined the club a couple of months ago, and I’ll be playing twice a week now with summer coming up, so it’s nice to get started like this, it was the 16th hole, which is a par three, so really it’s pretty good.
“The pro at the club congratulated me and said they’ll try and get something sorted for me, I know the last person to get one, got a Hugo Boss watch given to him and a signed frame.”
