Two daughters remember mums

-

THE Starlight Walk at Capesthorne Hall on Friday, April 22, will be a poignant occasion for two colleagues from East Cheshire Hospice.

Karyn Johnston and Rachel Allcock are taking part in memory of their mothers, who have died within the past few months.

They will be among more than 600 walkers strolling through the beautiful grounds of the estate.

The pair have been sharing their stories in radio adverts broadcast on Silk FM in the lead up to the walk.

Organisers, East Cheshire Hospice, say walkers can turn up on the night and pay to take part.

Karyn, the charity’s income generation director, said: “My mum Kathleen died in a busy hospital at home in Northern Ireland and staff just didn’t have the time to care for her properly.

“Mum was a wonderful woman who loved to walk, so me and my family are celebrating her great life by joining the Starlight Walk to raise money so that other families can experience the brilliant care at East Cheshire Hospice in the future.”

Rachel, who is marketing manager, said: “My mum, Megan, died of cancer and spent last few weeks in a hospice in St Helens near her home. Although it was an awful time, the care mum got was amazing and made such a difference to her and all our family.

“Hospices across the country do a wonderful job and our family has already raised more than £500 for East Cheshire Hospice, so our patients can continue to receive marvellous care.”

Team Meg, wearing matching fleece jackets, comprises Rachel, husband Graham, dad Bernard, daughter Gwen, seven, and mother-in-law Barbara.

Their fundraising page can be found at justgiving. co.uk/walkformeg.

Gates open at 6pm, with the walk starting at 7.30pm.

Walkers have the option of one loop over 2.5k, two loops at 5k or four loops over 10k.

Entry costs £15 for adults and £10 for children.

The family-friendly atmosphere includes live music, with hot food and drinks available, and free parking. The event gives walkers the opportunity to remember a loved one, taking a candle, personalised lantern or pebble.

The deadline for online entries is midnight on Wednesday, April 20. Go to eastcheshirehospice. org.uk/starlightwalk for more information.
