Dog Izzy charms care home residents
A DOG known for its loyal and friendly nature charmed residents on a visit to a care home.
Izzy is a large Munsterlander dog and lives with owner Kevin Hoines in Sutton.
The breed is known for its loyal, friendly nature and Izzy is used by a charity which runs animal visits to care homes as a means of therapy in order to make residents feel better.
Izzy, who is eight years old, visited Lyme Green Hall to meet the residents including Jim Finch (pictured).
The care home run by Pendlebury Care Homes offers day care, respite and residential care for men and women.
Izzy’s owner Kevin Hoines said; “Izzy is a bit of a super dog.
“We have been visiting Lyme Green Hall for three years, helping to bring joy, a smile and comfort to residents.
“She is a large Munsterlander, the breed is a multi-purpose gun dog.
“They are very intelligent, loyal, affectionate, trustworthy and generally love people.
“Lyme Green Hall is one of a number of places in Macclesfield that Izzy loves to visit.”
Pendlebury Care Home activities co-ordinator Julie, said the residents looks forward to the visit.
She said: “It’s amazing to see faces light up when Izzy comes into the lounge to meet the residents.”
The visit was arranged as part of the Pets as Therapy programme.
Pets as Therapy is a national charity which aims to enhances health and wellbeing in the community through the visits of trusted volunteers with their animals which have been tested for their good behaviour.
The charity says the animals enhance lives in communities by providing companionship, friendship and help to tackle loneliness.
It’s suggested they can improve the lives of people suffering from mental and physical health conditions and illnesses such as autism, dementia and stroke.
The charity also helps to improve literacy in children by developing their confidence, interest and enjoyment in reading through the read2dogs scheme.
