Golden double for Bosley at Reading
BOSLEY Tug of War Club this weekend competed in a Tug of War Association southern region event hosted by Thames Valley Tug of War Club in Reading, competing in all five of the mens weight categories on offer at 600kg, 620kg, 640kg, 680kg and catchweight.
The team competed well throughout the day making three finals out of the five weight classes entered.
The team followed up their successes from the previous week of competition in Bedford by winning the 600kg competition for the second week running by defeating Sandhurst from Berkshire in the final by 2 ends to 0.
The team then followed up the win in the 600kg competition by taking a second gold medal in the 620kg competition, again defeating Sandhurst in the final by 2 ends to 0.
Bosley’s third final of the day came in the 680kg competition, and despite being underweight in this weight class battled their way to the final to meet Felton Eccles from Somerset.
Bosley couldn’t make it three gold medals on this occasion and had to settle for the silver medal, with Felton Eccles taking gold by 2 ends to 0.
“It was another good day of competition for us, but there is still a long way to go until the national championships on 18 June,” commented club spokesman Alan Knott.
“It is pleasing to be making finals at competitions early on in the season, so we just have to make sure we try and stay ahead of our rivals every week.”
Bosley will next be competing at the second round of the Tug of War Association National League hosted by Lincoln Tug of War Club in Melton Mowbray this Sunday 24 April and will be competing most Sundays in the build up to the National Outdoor Tug of War Championships, which this year take place locally at Macclesfield Rugby Club on Saturday 18 June.
