Woman taken to hospital after devastating blaze
AWOMAN was taken to hospital after a devastating house fire.
Six fire engines were called out to tackle to the fire on Bibby’s Lane, Higher Hurdsfield, at 3pm on Sunday, April 24.
Fire engines from Macclesfield and Bollington were initially sent to the scene and a further two fire engines from Wilmslow and Poynton also mobilised after reports of smoke coming from the house.
Crews found the ground and first floor of the large detached house on fire. The occupants were already out of the property but a woman was taken to Macclesfield hospital for treatment.
A fire investigation has concluded that the fire was accidental and may have been caused by an electrical fault.
Residents living nearby expressed their shock at the blaze.
Richard Buckley, chairman of Higher Hurdsfield Parish Council, said: “It’s really shocking to learn about it. “It’s such a shame.” Chris Broadbent, a solicitor, who lives up the hill at Close House Farm, said: “We were out when the fire started and returned home to find the area festooned with fire engines.”
Chris Worthington, who lives nearby, said: “I heard a commotion and went to see what was happening.
“There were fire crews relaying hoses from the canal up the road.
“I knew then something big. it was
“From further up the hill you could see the smoke and the house was well ablaze. It is a dreadful shame.
“I hope the woman is okay.”
Firefighters set up two main jets and four firefighters in breathing apparatus began tackling the fire from outside using two hose reel jets.
A further two fire engines were later called to the scene to help get water supplies from the Macclesfield canal and police assisted in closing roads. poor
Crews in breathing apparatus used ladders to cool roof tiles using hose reel jets and then began damping down hotspots.
Fire crews had left the area by 3pm on Monday.
One woman, who did not want to be named, said: “I popped along there to see if I could help in any way.
“The roof is burnt all the way across, the windows are all damaged. It’s a real mess.
“It’s such a tragedy to lose your home and so many of your belongings like that.”
