Spaceman is set for 10k run

-

A COMPANY boss is in training for the Manchester 10k in aid of families supporting children with autism.

Steve Loake is the managing director of Direct Food Ingredients, which imports and distributes food, nutritional and sports ingredients.

The firm has chosen to support Macclesfieldbased Space4Autism as its charity of the year and as part of the fundraising Steve has dusted off his running shoes and begun intense training to join competitors at the Great Manchester 10k.

Steve has recently recovered from a broken leg but has vowed to complete the annual run to raise money for the charity which supports families who have children with autism.

The race will take place on Sunday, May 22 and Steve is committed to achieving a personal best time with the help and support of the Direct Food Ingredients team.

Steve is finding time to commit to his demanding training regime during a busy year for the company as it is supporting the newly opened US office which has reached nearly $1million in sales in its first year of trading.

Other fundraising events which staff have taken part in to raise money have included a six a side football game.

Steve, whose wife Moira helps to run the business, which is based on Waters Green, said: “A number of our staff have friends and family members who are struggling with autism and challenging myself with the Manchester 10k is one of many ways I aim to support this brilliant cause.”
