Fundraisers halfway to Becca’s op target
FRIENDS of a young girl with cerebral palsy have praised football fans for supporting an appeal to fund her life-changing surgery.
Becca Carey’s only chance of being able to walk independently is to have spinal surgery.
But the seven-year-old has been refused the surgery on NHS.
Her family are trying to raise £80,000 to fly Becca to America for the operation.
This fundraising effort, Becca’s Wish to Walk, is being supported by Jean Ridgway and Rick Sherry from Macclesfield, who take Becca to and from school.
The pair, along with Becca’s family, were at Macclesfield Town FC’s home game against Guiseley on April 16 where a bucket collection raised £600.
The cash means the family have raised enough for Becca’s operation which costs £40,000, but now have to raise the same again to afford the rehabilitation.
The fundraiser even got lucky on the club’s 50/50 draw which was won by Jean’s son Andrew and he was able to put an extra £80 in the bucket.
Jean, 73, said: “Thanks to all the fans for their support and the club for allowing the collection.”
