Rowe sets top target

- SHELDAN KEAY

MACCLESFIELD Town winger Danny Rowe insists that a top-five finish is his target next season after he signed a new deal with the club.

The 24-year-old was one of the Silkmen’s best players during the last campaign, with his impressive performances earning him a new contract with the club.

He is one of several current players to commit their future to the Moss Rose for another year, with the club also looking to add some new recruits.

Rowe hopes that with a lot of the existing team remaining in place, Macclesfield have what it takes to challenge for promotion back into the Football League.

“There is a real bond in the dressing room and we want to achieve something together for the fans,” he told the club’s official website.

“We believe we can reach the top five of this league and that will be the aim for next season. We just want to take the form that we showed towards the end of last season into pre-season and the opening games and make sure we make a good start.

We showed last season that we are a match for the better teams in the division and with so many of the squad staying I think we can have another good year.”

Rowe revealed that he had offers from higher clubs, but wanted to stay at Macc and continue to learn from current manager John Askey.

“I was delighted to sign a new deal with Macclesfield Town. I’ve been here for a number of years now and I am really enjoying my time here,” he said.

“I’m happy at Macclesfield and while I had options to play higher, I felt for my development I needed another season at Macclesfield under the gaffer.

“There is a great atmosphere at the football club and we just want to have another successful season where we can continue to improve. If we can do that then I am sure we will be there or thereabouts again.”

Macclesfield finished in 10th place during the latest National League campaign, having won 19 of their 46 matches.
