Millennium green gears up for fun fete

-

HENBURY’S millennium green will be transformed for the village’s annual fete.

The fun fete – which has been running since the venue was established in 2000 – will take place on Saturday, June 11.

It will include all the usual stalls and games, including ferret racing, archery, and maypole dancing with children from Whirley Primary School.

A jazz band will provide the musical accompaniment for the afternoon and there will also be a cake competition run by Henbury WI with the Queen’s 90th birthday as its theme.

The event runs from 2pm until 4.30pm.

Entrance costs £2 for adults and is free for under 14s.

Ann Cousins, chair of Henbury Events Committee, said the event has grown each year since the farmer’s field at the centre of the village was transformed into a community space.

She said: “It will have all the usual stalls and many games, including some new ones like ‘guess the amount of alcohol units in a wheelbarrow’.

“There will be lots going on. Money raised will go towards the upkeep of the village and amenities.”
