Royal di­a­mond invite for golden girl Hay­ley

GIRLGUIDE Hay­ley Bowers rubbed shoul­ders with roy­alty when she headed to Buck­ing­ham Palace for a spe­cial cel­e­bra­tion.

Hay­ley, 20, from Sid­ding­ton, was one of 1,000 young peo­ple in­vited to the palace to cel­e­brate the di­a­mond an­niver­sary of The Duke of Ed­in­burgh’s Award (DofE) and re­ceived her Gold award.

Hay­ley, who is a mem­ber of the 2nd Jo­drell Se­nior Section Unit took 18 months to com­plete the Gold DofE Award, work­ing de­ter­minedly through the five sec­tions of her DofE pro­gramme.

Her di­verse se­lec­tion of ac­tiv­i­ties in­cluded learn­ing to drive, prac­tis­ing bal­let and vol­un­teer­ing with the Bri­tish Heart Foun­da­tion, as well as tak­ing part in a week-long res­i­den­tial event.

She said: “My DofE ex­pe­ri­ence have pro­vided me with a range of life ex­pe­ri­ences in­clud­ing team work, com­mu­ni­ca­tion skills, un­der­stand­ing peo­ple’s needs and flex­i­bil­ity.

“DofE also proved to me that if you have a pos­i­tive mind-set then you can achieve any­thing.”

Hay­ley is now un­der­tak­ing her Di­a­mond DofE by chal­leng­ing her­self to climb ten moun­tains in six days to cel­e­brate the 60th an­niver­sary of the DofE award.
