National award for MS group
THE Macclesfield and District branch of the MS Society has been crowned ‘Branch of the Year’ at the MS Society Awards.
The branch, which reaches a large area across East Cheshire and High Peak, was chosen for providing a vast range of services and support in a modern and innovative way to people with multiple sclerosis (MS).
Derek Farmer, branch chairman, 61, said was ‘proud and honoured’ to win.
He said: “It feels fantastic to be named Branch of the Year – absolutely wonderful. It’s a real recognition of the work many people have put into the branch over the years to make it what it is today. It’s also a tribute to our members who stuck with us through difficult times as well as good times, and their ongoing support. The award is such a surprise for us.”
There are 300 members of the Macclesfield and District branch.
The awards are the MS Society’s way of recognising the achievements of people with MS and those who go above and beyond the call of duty in supporting people with the condition.
