Sixes successes for Macc boys
MACCLESFIELD Cricket Club under 9s entered not one, but five teams into the Hyde Sixers Tournament recently.
A total of 30 players and parents arrived with the determination to show they were a force to be reckoned with and they certainly managed that!
The day began with all five teams playing group matches.
After lunch, the Blues moved into the firstplaced group, which, after a gruelling semi final, they won in true Macclesfield style.
Coach Dan Ackerley said: “The Blues played five and won five! They were very proud winners and beat Warrington by 73 runs in the final.”
The Lions moved into the second-placed group where they were also victorious.
Robin Farmer, the Lions coach, said: “They did the club proud with a fantastic effort from the whole team.
“In the second-placed final the team had their best performance of the day, winning by 31 runs”
The Tigers, Panthers and Silks all progressed to the third-place group with the Silks taking the trophy.
Stephen Moores, Silks coach, said: “A combination of tight bowling, hard hitting and unbelievable catching saw the side improve in every game.
“Their only lost once all day and that was to the eventual overall champions”.
Duncan Ross, under 9s coach said: “Each of the players played their parts in their team, scoring some beautifully struck fours, astonishing sixes and taking a number of superb wickets.
“The players had a wonderful experience and are looking forward to the next tournament in Poynton.” Macclesfield U14 won v Toft 116 for 1 (Joseph Haigh 35), Toft 102 for 10 Macclesfield U15 won v Haslington 80 for 7 (Harry North 39), Haslington 79 for 9 Macclesfield U13 won v Prestbury 83 for 1 (Zac Smith 3-13), Prestbury 82 for 9 (Rahul Mehta 19) Macclesfield U11 lost v Bramhall 104 for 3, Bramhall 130 for 7 Macclesfield U11 lost v Wilmslow 74 for 2 (Billy Birkett 21), Wilmslow 75 for 5 ( William Wootton 29)
