Party-goers are pitch perfect at rugby club
WET weather couldn’t stop a carnival atmosphere emerging recently at Macclesfield Rugby Club.
At one of East Cheshire Hospice’s largest ever events, dozens turned out for the first ever Party On The Pitch.
Three giant teepees were erected on specially-prepared land within the rugby club complex, providing much needed cover from rain.
The three-day extravaganza began with a quiz night attended by more than 160 people hosted by the team which stages the hospice’s regular quiz events, with the Macclesfield Punners Reunited team emerging the victors.
The traditional summer fair proved a great family success on the Saturday with bouncy castles, a coconut shy and a wide range of stalls selling crafts, fashions and food among the attractions.
Two giant screens showed Euro 2016 football during Saturday’s party night, which also included music from Silk FM’s Darren Antrobus and an open mic night to showcase local musical and comedy talent.
The weekend was completed with a popular tea dance to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.
Organiser Jessica Ruth, events manager at the hospice, said: “Despite the awful weather, everyone enjoyed themselves at one of our biggest weekends of the year held right in the heart of the community.
“There was a great atmosphere both inside and outside the teepees and we’d like to thank everyone for their kind support, including Tipi Unique and Macclesfield Rugby Club.”
