Parents in plan for new play area
A COMMUNITY is fundraising to revamp a play area.
The project aims to develop the existing recreational area on Glastonbury Drive in Poynton for future generations of young people.
The idea is to install two picnic areas at the south of the site, close to the entrance, plus a walking trail and a range of play equipment including a climbing unit.
There will also be two swing sets, benches and a new pair of goalposts.
A group of parents have been fundraising since the start of the year, aiming to collect the £17,000 needed to pay for the project.
One event last month, dubbed the Glastonbury Sunday Session, raised £900 through a mini music festival at Poynton Sports club.
The next fundraising event will be a village fete at the park on Sunday, July 17. Kate Willett, a mum of two and one of the fundraisers, said: “For families living in this part of Poynton there is nowhere for children to go and play without having to cross a busy road.
“Our aim is to help raise awareness and fundraising for a fabulous development in Poynton to develop the existing recreational area on Glastonbury Drive which will provide local residents with an awesome play area for their children and grandchildren to play safely and a legacy for years to come.”
The project has the support of local business, the Round Table and Rotary Club branches, and Poynton Town Council and Cheshire East Council.
