MP joins in run to support Macc Half
MACCLESFIELD MP David Rutley donned his running gear to meet with the team behind the annual Macclesfield Half Marathon.
Mr Rutley met with the three charities which will benefit from this year’s event and joined some of the runners to complete part of the 5k course, which has been included to encourage more people to get involved.
Carl Hanaghan, race organiser, said the event gave the charities the chance to talk about what they do and discuss plans for this year’s race, which takes place on Sunday, September 25.
He said: “There was a real sense of coming together of the community and it was great to be supported by David and the guys from Jordan Fishwick, the main sponsors of the race.
“Macclesfield Half is becoming more of a unique race because it is run by an athletics club and all net proceeds go to charity.”
The three charities that will benefit from the event are the East Cheshire Hospice, the Rossendale Trust and Space 4 Autism.
The race is on Sunday, September 25 and starts and finishes at Macclesfield Athletics Track, behind Macclesfield Leisure Centre.
It costs £24 for unattached members to take part, or £21 for attached, with an additional £4 for entries on the day.
Participants must be 17 or over.
Entry to the 5k is £8 for attached or £10 for non-attached, with a £2 surcharge for entries on the day. Participants must be 13 or older.
Children aged 13 or under can take part in the Junior fun run, which costs £3. Under fives must be accompanied by an adult.
