Pets team in bid to raise cash in aid of animal rescue shelter

-

COLLEAGUES at a pet shop are raising money for a charity which cares for rescued and abandoned animals.

The staff in the team at Pets at Home in Lyme Green are taking part in various activities as part of a fundraising appeal.

Money raised in the appeal with be donated to Windyway Animal Sanctuary, on Buxton Old Road, Macclesfield, which rescues and rehomes abandoned animals.

It’s part of a nationwide appeal for local animal shelters which starts at the chain of stores this week.

For four weeks, the store team will be working hard to raise money for Windyway as part of the initiative being run by independent charity, Support Adoption For Pets.

Over the course of the month, colleagues will be hosting a range of activities for customers to help raise funds to support the work of the shelter.

Darren Morrall, store manager, said: “Our local shelters are vital for keeping abandoned pets healthy and happy until they find a new forever home, but sadly they need additional funding to continue their great work.

“We are really looking forward to holding the fundraising appeal once again in aid of Windyway to help its work looking after animals in need.

“We have lots of fun activities planned and some fantastic prizes are up for grabs.”

Activities for the appeal will include an in-store raffle, where a range of prizes will be on offer, with the headline prize being a brand new Mini One.

Half the money raised will be donated to Windyway in Macclesfield and the other half goes to a grant programme by Support Adoption for Pets, which allows animal charities to apply for additional funding to support their work.

Since being established in 2006, Support Adoption for Pets has helped more than 1,000 rehoming centres and animal welfare organisations across the UK by awarding grants and running fundraising campaigns with Pets at Home.

Windyway Animal Sanctuary is supported by charity the Windyway Trust.

Windyway started in the 1960s at Windyway Head Farm which is now owned by Wendy Dawber and her family who rescue and rehome cats, rabbits, chickens, guinea pigs and horses as well as dogs.

The charity will have a stall at Pets at Home on Saturday, July 16 and Tuesday, August 2 as part of the fundraising appeal.
