Legal eagles soar to King’s victory

THE legal eagles picked off the opposition in the King’s School eighth annual Bursary Golf Day helping to raise £4,000 to fund full fee and part bursaries.

Cheshire solicitor Rob Thorneycro­ft’s led his team of Sean Hammil, Jonathan Salem and Martin Allmand-Smith to a stunning 92 points, with Ken Grant guiding his team into runners up spot on 89 points and the last podium place taken by Ron Smart’s team with 88.

Former President of The King’s School’s Former Pupils’ Associatio­n and organiser of their Golf Society Alan McInnes, said: “Many thanks to our sponsors Arighi Bianchi, John Kennerley, Higgins Plumbing, JW Financial Planning, SAS Daniels, Simon Hyde, Zest Kitchens and Bathrooms, Ron Smart, P.R.Jones Jewellers, Thorneycro­fts Solicitors, Royles Jaguar, Heywood Shepherd, John Douglas, Neil Jackson, Ian Ainsworth, Robinsons Brewery, Barry Jones, Manchester Paper Box (Clare Elms), Matthew Barratt, and Arthur Dicken with further donations form John Durston, Matthew Palmer (Palletower UK) Heatons Office Solutions.”

Alan added: “Of course we must also thank Macclesfie­d Golf Club for continued access to this wonderful course for the eighth year in succession and to the weather Gods for finally relenting and is a rain free day.”

The KSFPA’s Golf Society has raised over £30,000 for the King’s Bursary Fund and Deputy Headmaster Richard Griffiths, who presented the prizes and is pictured with Alan at the front of the group, said: “The Golf Society is a wonderful fundraiser for the Bursary scheme, which enables local children the opportunit­y of a King’s education and also allows former pupils to renew the competitiv­e instincts they developed on our playing fields.”
