Bollington share spoils with leaders

- TOM HORSFIELD

BOLLINGTON welcomed table toppers Didsbury to the Recreation Ground last time out, in a game hugely effected by the wet weather.

After three hours of continual work on the ground by the home side, play finally started in a game which was reduced to 34 overs per side.

Before the first rain delay, only four overs were managed, enough time for Bollington to take their first wicket of the afternoon.

Faiz Kippie (1-36) claimed the wicket after a great catch in the slips from Pete Henshaw to remove Didsbury opening batsmen Reid for 0.

A controlling Didsbury display would dominate proceedings for the next 25 overs as the runs flowed with ease.

They passed the 100 mark after 17 overs with both batsmen approaching their half century.

Opener Hughes passed his half century, and was continuing to increase the score with ease, tormenting the Bollington bowlers.

A second and final consolation wicket of the afternoon came with the bowling of Horsfield (1-39), bowling Normanton for 39.

After only 28 overs, Hughes brought up his Century after some powerful hitting, who alongside Anderson propelled the scores past 200 of just 30 overs.

Three more overs were bowled before Didsbury declared on 212, giving the hosts 35 overs to attempt a chase.

Didsbury struck immediately, taking the wicket of Dickinson for 2 and Edgar for 10 to leave the hosts in a procerus position after 5 overs.

A mini revival boosted the home sides score as they passed the 50 mark after 12 overs.

Didsbury brought on their spinner, and J.Dickinson took him on, hitting an a barrage of sixes before attempting one to many after being caught out of the bowling of White.

Hough continued to score after passing 50, but none of the Bollington batsmen could back him up as the game look to fissile out into a draw.

As the run rate increased over by over, the likelihood of victory was next to none.

The remaining eight overs of the game saw five Bollington wickets fall, but it was too little too late for the table toppers as the game ended in a draw.

Bollington achieving 151 of their 35 overs, taking seven points from the game and sitting in mid-table at the half way point in the season.
