CANALSIDE 102.8 FM

-

WE like to inform you about local people who devote their time voluntarily to charity work.

One such example is Rebekah Kerslake who was recently interviewed by Brian Moores. You can hear the interview on 102.8FM at regular intervals.

Rebekah set up a project called Carriers for Kos (C4K) with a few other local mums last year.

They put out an appeal for baby carriers and slings to send to refugee families fleeing war with babies and small children, who had no way of carrying them long distances.

The appeal got nationwide exposure when they posted in various Facebook groups and local exposure when they appeared on ‘Mums in the Know’ and in the Macclesfield Express.

The response was phenomenal and it became clear very quickly that a small project was going to turn into something much bigger than had been anticipated.

One in ten women attempting to travel to safety are pregnant, and often alone. These women have next to nothing to prepare them for the arrival of their babies and the aim of the project is to provide them with essential items for the first crucial weeks after birth.

The team are putting together ‘baby boxes’ containing a blanket, two babygrows (one newborn and one 0-3 months) one sleep suit, one jumbo box of nappies, two packs of wipes, two packs of maternity pads, nappy bags, 125g Sudocrem and a carrier.

If you are able to donate any of the above items, or make a cash donation please go to the website www.crowdfunder. co.uk/refugee-babyboxes.

You can also contact members of the group by their Facebook page C4K – Refugee Baby Boxes, or by emailing Rebekah at hrwershbale@gmail. com.

Our charity, Canalside’s Phase One Training, will have a stall at the Treacle Market on July 31, where we will have a table top and cake sale, proceeds of which will go towards the running of the project.
