Bollington’s vital win

- TOM HORSFIELD

BOLLINGTON welcomed Oxton to the Recreation Ground last weekend, with just six points separating the sides before the start of play.

It was the visitors who won the toss, and elected to bat.

The home side started the strongest with opening bowlers Joe Binder and Harri Dickinson seeing only four runs in the first five overs.

The pressure finally paid as Dickinson took the wicket of Gibson in the seventh over for 1, caught Mckernan.

The two bowlers continued to dominate proceedings.

It was the 11th over which brought the next wicket, Binder tormenting Shillinglaw outside the off stump to hit it straight to Hough. A brilliant piece of fielding from Plant saw the fourth wicket of the afternoon – running out Choudhry for 0, with the scores at 22-4 after 16 overs.

Binder was then on the scoresheet for the second time, taking the wicket of Crawley for 11 with a good low catch from Dickinson.

This saw the end to a fine Joe Binder spell with figures of 2-35 off 15 overs.

A much-needed partnership from the visitors saw the scores pass 100 with Fernando and De Branband going well after 36 overs.

Plant and Jake Dickinson bowled well at the death, Plant (2-28) taking the fifth and sixth wicket of the game, and Dickinson taking the remaining four for just 28 wickets.

A very good bowling and fielding display from the host restricted the visitors to just 144.

The in-form Bollington captain Hough opened the batting, alongside Dickinson, with both batsmen starting well.

Bollington lost their first wicket after 30 runs, Dickinson out for 18. He was replaced by his brother, who continued to dominate alongside Hough, who brought up his fourth half-century of the season to take his side past the 100 mark.

Dickinson lost his wicket after the scores passed 100 for 26.

Hough finally lost his wicket after a brilliant 66, with his side needing just 25 for victory.

Kippie was Bollington’s fourth and final wicket of the afternoon for 15, which left Barrass (13*) and Dawson (1*) carrying the home side over the line.
