Lewis is set for kick-off
MACCLESFIELD Town midfielder Paul Lewis wants the side to have a strong showing in pre-season to give them the best chance of hitting the ground running in the National League.
Lewis has been in action for Macc over the past couple of weeks as they’ve played several friendlies so far this summer.
They begin their competitive action when they take on Torquay in the opening National League fixture of the season on August 6, and Lewis is urging his side to perform well over the next few weeks.
“It’s good to get back and good to be seeing the boys again and hopefully we can have a strong preseason,” he said.
“It gives you a good base to go on and hopefully allows us to perform the best that we can in the season.
“Just to get our general fitness back up is good as well as obviously we’ve had a break so we need to get it back up.”
Lewis was one of a number of existing Macclesfield players that have re-signed with the club for the forthcoming season, and he feels that will give the team a huge boost over some of their rivals.
“It’s always nice to see the lads I played with last year re-signing so hopefully that will be good for us,” he said.
“We don’t really need to bond as a group because we’ve been together for over a year now so hopefully that will put us in good stead for the season.”
